Topic: Launchbar commander not saving to PC. (Read 7133 times) Hi, Just installed Launchbar Commander on my Windows 7 Home Premium PC and when saving I get an error which I have attached as a screen shot. I reinstalled the program but this made no difference. I look forward to your replyJohn. Did you, by any chance, install LBC by unpacking the portable zipfile into the Program Files directory? Ath's question is a good one -- if you copied the files to the directory from the portable release instead of using the installer or copied the files from an xp computer, then it would be configured to try to store the data in the Program Files directory which is not right. You are not allowed to save files there on win 7.In fact, just from looking at the directory it's trying to save in we know that it's trying to save someplace it shouldn't be. On simple answer is to delete the configdir.ini file that is in that C:\Program Files\LaunchBarCommander directory, and remember to save your launch bars in a directory inside your documents directory. Hi,Thank you for your reply. I uninstalled LBC and removed any leftover files or folders, I then reinstalled using the LBC setup file (I never used the portable version) the configdir.in is now located in the Documents file, is this correct ? however I still get an error as shown in the screen shot. What am I ding wrong?Windows 7 HP Hmm.. why isn't it able to save the file there? I had the same thing happen to me with Win7 if I did not give LBC admin privilege when I started it. When I do the problem stopped. Could this be the case here? i dont know why LBC should need admin privileges if installed normally. anyone? I had the same thing happen to me with Win7 if I did not give LBC admin privilege when I started it. When I do the problem stopped. Could this be the case here? Thank's bob99 your suggestion solved the problem. Quick update for this topic ...I had exactly the same problem after updating LBC, I use portable versions and in explicitly named directories, eg c:\programs\lbc_141 after an upgrade to new version and a change of directory c:\programs\lbc_144, I copied my MCF files to new directory, then DELETED the old directory, and then hit this same error. It seems that one of the the mcf filenames was being displayed by LBC, and could be edited, but was pointing to the old directory, so of course could not be saved. Thanks Mouser for this supper software. After the demise of the MS Office toolbar, I looked for an acceptable substitute. I can't remember why the built in Windows toolbars didn't appeal to me, but they didn't, so I searched out a substitute. My file manager of choice has been Directory Opus (I like a two-pane file manager - a hangover from my Amiga days) since the first PC version that I obtained on a cover disk - I'm currently using the paid-for version 9 on my own PC. This has a perfectly acceptable (to me anyway) toolbar system built in, but when my PC at work was re-imaged to Windows 7, my free version of Directory Opus stopped working. I needed a new toolbar system! After trying out a variety of programs, I settled on the portable version of LaunchBar Commander. This is lightweight and has more features than I am ever likely to use. The portable version sits nicely in my active directory profile and doesn't take up too much space (or get overwritten by the IT department in one of their purges).I also needed a new two-pane file manager, but that's a different story.

Description Info All versions Reviews LaunchBar Commander is what is commonly referred to as an "Application Launcher"; it is typically docked to the side of your screen and lets you configure buttons and menus which will launch your favorites programs.LaunchBar Commander has a slightly different focus than some other launch bar tools: It's designed for power users who value efficiency over eye candy - although you can choose some nice appearance skins for the program, if you are looking for a super fancy animated mac-style dock with dancing icons, LaunchBar Commander is not the tool for you (but see the help file for links to other freeware/shareware alternatives you might like). It's designed to store docking bar configurations in self-contained files - so you can back them up easily, move them to other computers, switch between configurations, etc. It emphasizes the use of highly configurable Menus rather than just buttons - you can build hierarchical menus of any depth and varying types. It has a very powerful tree configuration tool which supports copy and paste, drag and drop, easy temporary disabling, multiple configuration files, etc. Multiple dock support - a single instance of the program can support multiple docks and tray menus. Robust support for virtual file menus - confgure menu items to give you access into specific folders, with many options. Drag and drop runtime support - drop files onto buttons to open them with the specific program, or add them to the launch bar. Smart tree building -

What is more, you can add as many docks as you want.Ĭonclusion: LaunchBar Commander is a powerful dock application for Windows. You can assign hotkeys and icons to these shortcuts. Then you can add new shortcuts to programs, folders, websites etc, under these nodes. You can add groups or nodes and then give it a new name. The number of shortcuts that you can add is practically unlimited giving you a much faster access to them. In the preferences, you can add or remove cascading program shortcuts as you like. You can right-click on the system tray icon to show or hide this dock as well as configure its settings. Many of the users choose to keep such a dock on the right-edge of the screen, but some also keep it near the top-edge of the screen. It shows a floating dock that can be resized, moved and customized to your liking. LaunchBar Commander is a dock program that can easily replace the Windows task bar for many users. And this is where the third party dock programs come – they fill a gap left out by Windows task bar.Microsoft Windows also implemented it in the form of the task bar, but even after so many years users coming from the Mac to Windows find the Windows task bar a little inferior. Apple Mac was the first operating system to implement a feature rich dock. A dock is basically a feature in an operating system that keeps the shortcuts to various frequently used programs and settings. When computing world started to use operating systems with graphical user interfaces as opposed to the command line interfaces in the early 90s, a new feature came into existence – docks.
